Audi’s head of technical development, Dr Ulrich Hackenberg, recently told AutoExpress that his team is working on a successor for the Q7 V12 TDI, which will likely be called the SQ7.
The new car will cut down on the number of cylinders to just eight, but the powertrain will use a set of electric turbos. By using electric turbos, turbo lag will essentially be a thing of the past.
This new engine will be based on the 4,2-litre V8 TDI unit that also powers the Cayenne, Touareg and upcoming Bentley Bentayga.
Power is expected to be in excess of 300kW, with a torque rating higher than the current 700Nm.
