Fred Bernhard, a Coachbuilder from Germany, has built a once-off T1 racing taxi for the annual VW GTI gathering at Worthsee.
This maniac machine is based on the old T1 kombi, but it uses the engine from a Porsche 993. It has two turbocharges slapped on for good measure, which means it produces around 390kW and 750Nm of torque.
Bernhard also replaced a lot of the bodywork with carbon fibre, so the T1 racer weighs only 1 500kg.
We can’t wait to see this thing in action and we’ll post a video as soon as it becomes available online.
