General Motors has trademarked the name “Crossvolt”. Does this mean that a crossover version of the company’s electric vehicle is on the way?
There is no official word yet, but GM has shown interest in diversifying the Volt range. In 2010 General Motors showed the Volt MPV5 Electric concept (pictured) at the China Auto Show. As the name suggest, it was an MPV version of the Volt, but it never made it into production.
Now, the fact that GM has trademarked the name doesn’t mean too much. In fact, the company trademarked the Crossvolt name in 2011, but never used it, so it expired recently. However, General Motors has trademarked the moniker yet again, so the company seems genuinely interested in getting a Crossvolt into production.
