Friends, family and fans are expected to gather at Kyalami Race Track in Midrand today to pay tribute to popular race driver Gugu Zulu who died while trying to summit mount Kilimanjaro on Monday, 18 July.
Gugu Zulu and his wife Letshego were climbing the mountain as part of the Trek4Mandela fundraising expedition. The plan was to summit on Mandela day but Gugu experienced problems breathing. The supporting medical team quickly put him on a drip and they descended the mountain with him, doing all that they could to save his life, but unfortunately they did not succeed.
Family spokesperson Tseliso Motloheloa has welcomed all those who would like to attend the memorial, “The memorial is expected to start at 11 am until 2pm and everyone is welcome to come.”
Zulu will be laid to rest on Thursday, 28 July, at the Westpark cemetery after a funeral service at the Rhema Bible Church in Randburg.
Fans and those who knew Gugu have been expressing love, sadness and support for his family across social media.
Heartbreaking news about #GuguZulu‘s passing. A truly inspiring soul. Love and comfort to his wife and family. May he rest in peace.
