In the wake of the success of CUVs (Compact Utility Vehicles) like Nissan’s Juke, reports are rife of a new model from the Mazda stable. Reportedly the small crossover will be called the CX-3, and is aimed squarely at Jukes and Kugas.
The website Auto Express reports that the little Mazda off-roader will have a strong focus on fuel efficiency, but local sources inside Ford have said the same about the incoming Kuga that we expect to see next year. According to the site, the CX-3 will be fitted with a brand new 1,6 litre diesel engine, smaller than anything Mazda has placed so far, and a 1,3 litre petrol engine.
The most disappointing of the rumours is that there may not be an all-wheel drive version available at all – something that seems to be a trend with the automaker in question. It is said to be expected internationally in 2014, and to be very similar in styling to the CX-5.
No doubt Mazda will continue with their new style direction, finding a fierce feline to scul pt it after. Expect a similar façade and lower body plastics, with an emphasis on lifestyle and practicality rather than off-roading ability.
