Utes are supposed to be cool, right?
That’s why it seems so strange for a company to introduce a kit to turn the previous generation VW Jetta into a pick up truck.
The company, called Smyth Performance, built the first example as something they could use day-to-day to carry stuff around, but now it’s made it available as a do-it-yourself kit.
The kit sells for the equivalent of around R40 000 and you should be able to fully assemble and paint it within a weekend.
The result is a fully-fledged single cab bakkie with a payload of roughly 350kg.
