With Mercedes-Benz’s A-Class derived GLA already on sale, and the recently-unveiled Concept Coupe SUV almost certainly getting built, the company’s SUV line-up is getting rather crowded.
Moreover, the company’s earlier SUV offers are more traditional 4x4s with real off-road ability, while the latest models tend to sportier SUVs, more intended for on-road driving, than off.
According to AutoNews, Mercedes-Benz is cognizant of this fact, and consequently plan to split the line-up, differentiating clearly between its sporty crossovers and its proper 4×4 SUVs.
This is a good sign for fans of Merc’s legendary off-roaders, since it indicates that the company has no intention of abandoning those 4×4 models, even as the market for sporty, high-riding SUVs grow.
