Daimler’s Mercedes-Benz arm is working on its first premium mid-sized bakkie. A teaser sketch image was released last year but now Carscoops photographers have managed to photograph a test mule.
The mule still carries much of Nissan’s body panels but wider front and rear wheel arches are apparent. Mercedes’ new pickup is based on the Nissan NP300 Navara’s underpinnings and will reportedly enter the market under the GLT moniker, somewhere during 2017.
The GLT is being developed and designed by Daimler to meet the specific needs of its customer base in Europe, Australia, South Africa and Latin America .
A range of four- and six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines are expected, with entry-level models getting a six-speed manual and the rest a seven-speed automatic gearbox, with permanent four-wheel-drive.
