There may be a new Mercedes-Benz’s crossover on the horizon, known as the GLB, which would slot snugly between the current GLA and GLC.
The German manufacturer has reportedly trademarked the name and it will be used on a bulked-up version of the B-class.
According to Autocar, Mercedes-Benz’s Research and Development chief, Thomas Weber, states that “there is always room in the lineup” for additional vehicles, underlining that the SUV segment is increasing: “Is there room for additional SUVs? Why not?“.
If the GLB goes ahead it’s expect it to share the GLB 200 and GLB 250 petrol engines, along with the GLB 200d and GLB 220d diesels. A plug-in hybrid or AMG variant is also a possibility. Front-wheel drive will be standard, while more expensive versions could benefit from the 4Matic AWD system.
