Renault South Africa have expanded its Duster range from four to five models with the addition of a 1.5-litre turbodiesel with automatic transmission.
The updated MY2016 range initially featured two petrol and two diesel models, with the top-of-the-range Duster 1.5 dCi Dynamique being a capable 4×4, as we discovered on the dunes of Namibia.
Featuring the Dynamique trim and two-wheel-drive, the latest addition is known as the EDC (Efficient Dual Clutch) model and sits just below the range-topping 4×4 Duster. The EDC is a 6-speed automatic gearbox with two clutches, ‘for optimized efficiency with the ideal gear selected via an electronic control unit’. Renault claims that this “dry” dual clutch system offers flexibility and fuel efficiency, combing the comfort of an automatic and the responsiveness of a manual.
The auto transmission is mated exclusively to the 1.5 dCi engine with an output of 80Kw and 250Nm and the manufacturer claims fuel consumption to be only 4.8 litres/ 100km.
ABS, emergency brake assist, and front and side airbags come standard in the Duster Model range, with ESP with traction control on the 4×4 and 4×2 EDC, ensuring that safety is never compromised.
