Toyota Gazoo Racing SA’s Leeroy Poulter and navigator Rob Howie may still be leading the standings in this year’s championship. But teammates Giniel de Villiers and navigator Dennis Murphy won the previous round – the Toyota Kalahari Botswana 1000 Desert Race. So, a tough battle between the two Toyota Hilux crews is expected, as the team takes on the Harrismith 400, round 4 of the 2017 South African Cross-Country Series (SACCS).
Poulter, however, is fresh from a strong performance on the recent Baja Aragon in Spain, where he finished fifth overall, with navigator Dirk von Zitzewitz doing duty in the hotseat. But then again, De Villiers has certainly found some form, and the fight between them should be quite something.
“We’re certainly looking forward to this weekend’s race,” said Glyn Hall, Team Principal of Toyota Gazoo Racing SA. “Leeroy and Giniel are taking the fight to each other at the moment, and it is certainly spectacular to see them in action.”
The Harrismith 400 kicks off with a prologue to determine start positions on Friday, 28 July. The main event starts at 8am on Saturday, 29 July, and entry to all areas is free for spectators.
