Volkswagen has announced an updated three-litre diesel engine for the updates VW Touareg, which will go in sale in Europe in October.
A new 3.0 TDI oilburner will replace the old three-litre mill, and will reportedly require a mere 6,6 litres of fuel per 100km. The old engine managed 7,2 litres per 100km. Power output has also been increased from 180 kW to 193 kW.
The engine will be mated to an eight-speed auto gearbox, and will have a “coasting” function, which disconnects the engine from the gearbox when acceleration is not required.
The engine apparently also has a new catalytic converter, and is now Euro-6 compliant. We’ll have to wait and see in what form this engine is eventually released locally, since our fuel quality is obviously lower than that of Europe, but hopefully we’ll see this improved engine SA.
