BMW has released a short clip of its new X5 xDrive40e.
As the hybrid name suggests, the BMW X5 xDrive40e comes with two powertrains, the first being a four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine pushing out 180kW and 350Nm of torque. The electric motor pushes out another 83kW and 250Nm of torque, which makes the 40e good for 230kW and 450Nm of torque. That’s enough power to see it to 100km/h in 6,8 seconds.
Using battery power only, the 40e can travel at speeds up to 120km/h for distances up to 30km.
Even more impressive is BMW’s claimed combined fuel consumption figure for this model, which stands at 3,3 l/100km.
The 40e will be fully revealed at the upcoming New York Motor Show. It’s not yet clear whether it will be made available in SA.
