Volvo’s Senior Vice President of Product Strategy and Vehicle Line Management, Lex Kerssemakers, has stated that an XC40 is in the works.
Kerssemakers told Car Advice that the company will create an XC40 based on the upcoming new V40. Based on Volvo’s new C-segment Modular Architecture, the all-new V40 will arrive in 2016. The XC40 is expected to arrive about two yards after that.
“It’s a very natural choice for Volvo. You then have a very nice lineup: XC90, XC60, XC40. Small SUVs, that’s where you see the growth. You see it overall downsizing, so I see big business in the future as it is now, but continuing for the C [segment] premium end of the market. We see that shift, we see sedans going into SUVs,” Kerssemakers said.
