Tanzania Migration 4×4 Safari

Experience the great wildebeest migration in the Serengeti in Tanzania – a once in a lifetime bucket-list trip. The 4×4 safari will also include the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater and tropical Zanzibar Island. The journey leads through Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Malawi, Tanzania, Zambia and Botswana.

Tanzania Wildebeest Migration Safari itinerary
Day 1: Boabab Chalets-Mussina
Everyone meets at the Boabab Chalets in Mussina. A fully qualified and experienced safari guide will do the introductions and briefing.

Day 2: Norma Jean’s Campsite-Zimbabwe
Leave Musina, cross the border very early and drive into Zimbabwe and set up camp at Norma Jean’s campsite adjacent to the Great Zimbabwe ruins. This is a very beautiful campsite with good ablution facilities and electricity points.

Day 3: Casa Msika- Lake Chicamba
Drive in a northern direction, cross the border into Mozambique, travel towards Chimoio and overnight at Casa Msika in their campsite on the shores of Lake Chicamba.

Day 4: Ugezi Tiger Lodge-Cahorra Bassa dam
Leave early morning for Cahorra Bassa dam and spend two nights at Ugezi Tiger Lodge

Day 5: Ugezi Tiger Lodge-Cahorra Bassa dam
Today is a leisure day. Optional extras are tiger fishing and/or a sunset cruise to the dam wall.

Day 6: Lilongwe Golf Club – Malawi
Depart early in the morning for a long drive through Tete and the Dedza border post to Lilongwe in Malawi where we will camp at the Lilongwe Golf Club. One electricity point and an ablution block is available. (Camping included in the accommodation package).

Day 7/8 : Lake Malawi
Drive along Lake Malawi to Chitimba beach at Mokondowe and camp on the white beach of Lake Malawi for the next two nights. Only cold water, but electricity is available. Spend your days swimming in the lake, chilling on the beach and having cold Kuche-Kuche beers in the pub. The adventurous can take the winding 4×4 track to Livingstonia Mission and experience the breathtaking views of the lake.

Day 9: Tanzania
Leave Lake Malawi early morning, crossing the border into Tanzania and camp at the Old Farm House about 50 km before Iringa.

Day 10/11: Ruaha National Park
Drive to Ruaha National Park and pitch camp for two nights. Camping site and facilities will be communicated in good time.

Day 12: Dodoma-Tanzania
Leave Ruaha and make your way via Iringa to Dodoma, the capital city of Tanzania. Stock up on supplies and overnight at a venue, which is to be confirmed.

Day 13: Kudu Lodge-Karatu
Leave Dodoma in the morning on the scenic route via Lake Manyara for Kudu Lodge at Karatu, pitch camp for the next two nights. Ablution and electricity points are available.

Day 14: Kudu Lodge-Karatu
Enjoy a day-visit to Ngorongoro Crater and return to camp at Kudu Lodge. Excursion to crater not included in package. Indulge in an optional dinner at the local tavern is always enjoyed by everyone.

Day 15/16/17/18: Serengeti National Park
Drive via Naabi Gate and Seronera to the northern corridor of the Serengeti National Park where you will spend the next four nights. The first night is at a public campsite at Lobo and the next three nights camping wild on the banks of the Mara River. No electricity or ablution facilities available, you have to be self-sufficient for the duration of our stay along the Mara. Spend some time along the Mara looking for an opportunity to experience a river crossing by the migrating herds of wildebeest.

Day 19: Serengeti National Park
Still in the Serengeti, drive south to Seronera and overnight in one of the public campsites.

Day 20: Colobus Lodge-Arusha
Drive to Arusha via the Maasai Kopjes in search for the big cats. Exit the Serengeti and overnight at Colobus Lodge for the night. It is a relative short day in terms of traveling. Spend the afternoon in Arusha to do some shopping or tend to the vehicles in terms of washing, servicing and repairs.

Day 21: The Serena Dar-Es-Salaam Hotel
Drive via Moshi and Mt Kilimanjaro south to Dar-Es-Salaam. Stay over in The Serena Dar-Es-Salaam Hotel and prepare for the trip to Zanzibar Island, link the fridges and vehicles to power points provided. Bed and breakfast is included in the accommodation package.

Day 22: Thembo Hotel-Zanzibar
Leave the vehicles in the safekeeping of the Serena Dar-Es-Salaam Hotel and take a morning flight to Zanzibar. On arrival in Stone Town, have lunch and check into Thembo Hotel before going on a walking tour of old Stone Town, including the impressive slave memorial site. Spend the night at Thembo Hotel.

Day 23/24/25: Dongwe Ocean View-Dongwe
Visit one of the many local informal spice farms on your way to Dongwe where you will spend the next three nights. Dongwe Ocean View is a boutique resort situated on the eastern side of Zanzibar. It is located +-50 km from Stone Town and the airport, closer to the northern tip of the South-East Peninsula. Spend your days snorkeling, swimming and relaxing on the milky white beaches. Breakfast and Dinner is included in the package, lunch and bar are for your own account at the typical “Zanzibari” beach restaurant.

Day 26: The Serena Dar-Es-Salaam Hotel- Dar-Es-Salaam
Take the bus back to the airport and fly back to the main land to spend the night at The Serena Dar-Es-Salaam. Dinner at the hotel is optional and for own account.

Day 27: Crocodile camp-Ruaha River
Enjoy an early drive towards Iringa and camp at Crocodile camp on the banks of the Ruaha River.

Day 28: Utengule Hotel-Mbeya
Leave for Mbeya and stay over at the Utengule Hotel on a coffee estate 20 km south of Mbeya on the edge of the Great Rift Valley. Bungalows, dinner and breakfast included in accommodation package.

Day 29: Kapishya Hot Springs
Cross the border into Zambia and continue south via Isoka to Kapishya Hot Springs and spend the next three nights. Relax in the hot springs and pay a visit to Shiwa Ngandu, Colonel Steward Gore Brown´s old residence, also called The Africa House.

Day 30/31:Kapishya Hot Springs
Visit the Africa House, catch up on some washing or relax in the pool. Kapishya is also a very good birding spot.

Day 32: Eureka Farm-Lusaka
Rise and shine at 06:00, heading south towards Lusaka and camp at Eureka Farm, 10 km south of Lusaka.

Day 33: Zambezi Bushfront-Livingstone
Drive to Livingstone and camp at the Zambezi Bushfront. Activities like dinner, boat cruise, microlight- and helicopter flights are available.

Day 34: Victoria Falls-Zambia
Visit the Victoria Falls from the Zambian side. The Victoria Falls is approximately 1690m wide and varies in height from 62m (Devil´s Cataract) to 109m (Eastern Cataract). In comparison the Niagara Falls are 968m wide and on average 54m high.

Day 35: Victoria Falls-Zambia
Cross the Zambezi by ferry at Kazungula and travel to Francistown where we will camp at Woodlands Stop. This is the end of our month long adventure. Relax and enjoy a farewell braai, say your goodbyes and leave the following morning in own time.
