March 2017 Issue

As you’ll notice from our cover this month, we invited a Welsh motoring journalist to visit Botswana and Namibia in a Toyota Hilux. It was his first time in Africa, and the trip left quite an impression.

Our second big adventure this month is a journey from Umhlanga in the east to Hondeklip Bay in the west. In a Suzuki Super Carry. In a single day. It was a trip of about 1800km, and the little Suzuki managed to knock it off in 20 hours

How does a 1979 Hilux compare to a 2017 model? To find out, we took both to an off-road trail. To say that Toyota’s bakkie has evolved significantly is quite an understatement…

We also look at the all-new Mitsubishi Triton, and find out what kind of sporty second-hand SUV you can buy for R400 000. Chris du Plooy of RFS Auto examines the second-hand Ford Ranger market.

On the technical side, we look at shock absorbers and how they work, and teach you how to deal with steep off-road inclines.

Lastly, we look back at the 2017 Dakar. We look at the highs and the lows, the winners and the losers. Regardless of who you were cheering on, it was certainly an interesting year.
