A month after releasing the all-new G-Class, Mercedes has released some videos of the AMG 63 version. We found that the first video entitled “Flash of lightening” kept us watching but was perhaps a bit too city-like for our restless 4×4 souls. The next video, The new Mercedes-AMG G63 2018: World Premier|Trailer, is somewhat better but neither of them quite stir us like the all-new G-Class video with its catchy soundtrack that we featured a few weeks back.
Still, the point of these new videos is to show off the AMG G63, which they do. To set it apart from the typical G-Class, the AMG G63 sports a vertical-bar grille with an AMG-specific front fascia and larger intakes .The exhaust is upgraded with side-exit pipes and there are two noise settings available: ‘mellow’ and ‘disorderly conduct’. The G63 gets larger wheel options that go up to 22 inches, AMG badges and door sills, and red brake calipers.
The familiar 4.0-liter biturbo V8 sits under the hood of this all-new G-Class variant and delivers 430kW and 850Nm mated to an AMG Speedshift TCT nine-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters for the full-manual mode. Tuned for AMG, the 4Matic all-wheel drive can send up to six percent of the power to the rear tyres. The suspension has been tweaked and comes with adaptive adjustable damping as standard, which can be optimized for on- or off-road performance.
