Today, Land Rover launches their much anticipated Range Rover Sport to the South African media, with the order list from customers very likely already as long as the N1 from Jo’burg to Cape Town.
Leisure Wheels drove the new Rangie Sport at the global launch – read our road test editor, GG van Rooyen’s first impressions – and the stylish SUV drew a massive crowd at the Johannesburg International Motor Show last month. Ahead of the launch, pricing details for the South African market was released (below), showing the Sport placed above the Porsche Cayenne – it’s biggest rival.
This week, European motoring media reported that Land Rover and Jaguar may be using the Jaguar CX-17 concept from Frankfurt’s platform to build another addition to the Range Rover family. The luxury arm of Land Rover’s offerings, a Range Rover between the Sport and Evoque with very high sales projections may be a replacement for the Rangie itself, or a new model altogether. What is certain is that the aluminium platform on which the CX-17 concept is meant to be built will be of great benefit to Land Rover engineers, and likely more profitable for the company than it’s Jaguar equivalent.
