The Frankfurt Motor Show kicked off yesterday, and the first big reveal in the world of SUVs, crossovers and overlanders was that of the new Jaguar C-X17.

The C-X17 was teased just ahead of the show, but an SUV from the luxury brand has been in the pipelines for many years. Clearly related to the F-Type, the 4×4 is aimed squarely at the likes of the Range Rover Sport and top-seller Porsche Cayenne. The bold design and 23-inch alloys fit right into the luxury crossover segment, and reports from the show indicate that the interior matches suit with high quality finishes and concept-like formation.
Under the hood, details are limited to a torque vectoring system, such as that on the Cayenne, and a “wide range of capacities and outputs” – as reported from Jaguar here. Their biggest challenge will be not to steal sales from their own stable – the Range Rover Sport already being on the road.
This concept, built on an older platform, will be based on a new design set for the plant in 2015.
