Volkswagen Australia have revealed that its flagship facelifted Amarok will feature an overboost function that will enable it to accelerate from 0-100km/h in 7.9 seconds.
This news was released less than 24 hours after Mercedes-Benz unveiled its X-Class concept double-cab bakkie in Sweden. VW Australia’s commercial vehicles director called the Mercedes-Benz X-Class an “over-hyped concept” and Amarok’s overboost function is seen by local media in Oz, as VW’s carefully planned retort. The news comes ahead of the facelifted and V6-powered Amarok’s local launch in Australia late next month.
The Amarok’s overboost function will increase the 3.0-litre diesel outputs from 165kW to 180kW, and 550Nm to 580Nm. The power increases are accessible from 70 per cent throttle, delivered in third or fourth gear from 50km/h.
The facelifted Amarok is scheduled to arrive in South Africa in 2017 but at this stage it’s unclear whether the V6 with overboost function will be available locally.
