Mini have teamed up with Autohome to create a new pop-up roof tent for the Countryman.
The tent is called the AirTop and is stored in a fiberglass shell that looks similar to a conventional rooftop box, like those made by Thule. It is attached to the crossover’s roof rails and secured by steel clamps that can be installed without the need for tools.
To raise the tent, three safety clasps are released and then four gas pressure springs go to work to lift the tent automatically. There’s an aluminum ladder to climb up to the tent’s opening and inside it’s fitted with a high-density mattress with a cotton cover, which can sleep two people. The tent is 94cm high, has a battery-operated LED interior light and storage pockets.
The Airtop has fabric outer walls and two windows with mosquito netting for ventilation.
The tent can be ordered in black or white and currently the price is €2 836.93 (around R41 800) – quite a bit of money for a two person tent.
