Distracted driving because of cellphone use is on the increase and of course it’s dangerous. While we’d like to think that self discipline is enough, perhaps a physical constraint, such as Nissan’s Signal Shield would help?
The Signal Shield is a Faraday cage (a box or cage that cancels out electric charges or radiation within the cage’s interior) built into the Juke’s armrest. When you place your smartphone in the compartment and close the lid, any cellular, Bluetooth or wifi electromagnetic signals are blocked. Music that’s stored on the phone can still be accessed via a USB connection and when the lid is opened, the phone will resume working normally.
The Signal Shield is still a one-off concept, which makes sense, because we don’t see the uptake on this concept being great.
