Recipe: Instant Trifle

Want to make a tasty and easy dessert. Well, it doesn’t get much easier (or tastier) than this wonderful instant trifle. Find out below how to make this popular dessert.

1. What you need

  • 1 can (385g) of mixed fruit
  • 1 packet (60g) of yellow jelly
  • 1 packet (60g) red jelly
  • 1 large Swiss roll
  • 250ml sherry or sweet wine
  • 2 chopped bananas
  • 500ml custard
  • 100g mixed nuts – chopped
  • 50g red cherries (or other berries)
  • Green fig – chopped into pieces
  • 250ml chilled cream

2. What to do

  • Drain the mixed fruit, saving the syrup
  • Combine syrup with some boiling water
  • Prepare yellow jelly as shown on packet. Don’t allow yellow jelly to set completely
  • Prepare red jelly according to packet instructions and allow to set
  • Chop Swiss roll into discs, and use to line bottom of large bowl
  • Pour sherry over Swiss roll
  • Pour fruit syrup, bananas and yellow jelly over Swiss roll. Allow jelly to set
  • Pour custard and chopped nuts into bowl
  • Scoop set red jelly on top
  • Finish off with cream and cherries
