Recipe: Macaroni and Boerewors Dish

This is a wonderfully tasty dish that can be prepared in as little as 30 minutes if you use a convection oven. It can also be prepared in a dish on the braai.

1. What you need

  • 1/2 – 1kg of boerewors, depending on how many people you are preparing the dish for. Chop boerewors into bite-size chunks
  • 250g packet of frozen vegetables
  • 1 – 2 chopped onions
  • 1 can of chakalaka
  • 2 cups of water
  • 500gmacaroni
  • Loads of grated cheese (cheddar and parmesan)
  • One green, yellow or red pepper that been cut into strips
  • 50ml chutney
  • 30ml tomato sauce
  • A pinch of sugar
  •  Salt and pepper to taste
  • Maizina and Bisto to thicken the sauce. Mix with a tad of water and add to pasta
  • Olive oil for the braai

2. What to do

  • Braai onions, peppers and wors until wors is just about done. Can still be slightly pink on the inside
  • Add macaroni and vegetables, and mix well
  • Add spices, sugar, chutney and tomato sauce, and mix well
  •  Add water – ingredients should just be coated with water
  • Cook until macaroni is done – should be al dente
  • If sauce isn’t thick enough, add more Bisto or Maizina
  • Add half the cheese, and stir well
  • Now sprinkle rest of cheese on top
  • Place lid on top, and allow 10 – 15 minutes for the cheese to melt properly
  • Enjoy!
