Nissan X-Trail 2012 year model
Nissan drivers will be pleased at the news of the X-Trail facelift, now available in South Africa. The original was launched in 2002, and has enjoyed success on the local market with over 22 thousand models sold since introduction. This has put the Japanese automaker’s SUV in the number one sales position in its category for seven years. This has made the X-Trail the to-selling SUV in its category (compact SUV) by a lead of 41%.
Win with “X-Life”
Nissan’s been in the spotlight recently for their involvement in the Gauteng based Nissan Trailseeker Series. Forming the provincial leg of the National Mountain Biking series, the company is aware of the popularity of X-Trails amongst the cycling community, and thus launched the X-Life campaign.

Ross Garvie, senior product manager for SUVs, Nissan SA, commented:
“The X-Life is at the core of what we do every day. This commitment is demonstrated by our sponsorship of the Gauteng leg of the National Mountain Biking Series – called the Nissan Trailseeker Series. It’s just one of the ways we get to engage with our likeminded customers”That said, it’s not a major facelift. The 2011 year model already saw some tweaks, including Advanced Hill descent Control and Hill Start Assist, some interior and exterior improvements and new wheels, reverse camera and trip monitor. The old adage of “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” does seem to work for the company, however, as an average of 157 X-Trails are sold in South Africa monthly – which is a full 135 units more than the Renault Koleos (pre-facelift), which has the same drivetrain.
4×4 Ability
The X-Trail has an electronic 4×4 system, operated via a dash-mounted dial; 203 mm ground clearance (unchanged) and is best in sand, mud and on dirt roads.
4×4 Lifestyle
With roofracks, tons of storage, cooled/heated glove box and 603 litres (max) of boot space, the X-Trail is an SUV in the true sense. Luxury items include a reverse camera, under-floor drawers in the boot, keyless entry and independent multi-link rear suspension. Of course, all specs are model dependent, and the range remains unchanged from the 2011 year model range.
