Cross seems to be the nomenclature of choice these days, as we’ve just found the third car using that name in as many days.
This time the Cross badge is stuck on the back of the new Fiat Panda. It also comes with a more aggressive body kit, new fog lights, bigger wheel arches and roof rails.
The Panda Cross features the same 4×4 system as the standard Panda, which isn’t available in South Africa yet. It can transfer torque between the front and rear axles for added traction in tricky situations. Ad in a new suspension setup at the front and a new torsion beam suspension at the back, and you have the perfect recipe for a serious little off-roader.
Power is provided by either Fiat’s tiny Twinair petrol engine, or a 1,3-litre Multijet turbodiesel.
The Panda Cross is set to debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
