Regular readers will know that we’re huge fans of the all-new Jimny. It’s still epic off-road and it’s much easier to live with thanks to a new 1.5-litre engine and a thoroughly modern interior.
Dynamically speaking, it’s not perfect, but it’s perfectly acceptable if you stay within the parameters of what it’s capable of. You wouldn’t, for example, go rallying in a Jimny, nor would you drag race a GTI.
That’s why we were dreading the results of the standardised and infamous “Moose Test” various magazines conduct overseas. Swerving from one lane to the next is definitely relevant, but anyone who has driven a Jimny will tell you that it’s miles better than it was before, but still no Nissan GT-R when it comes to sudden lane changes.
With that in mind, the Jimny’s score of “moderate” doesn’t seem too bad. It failed the test at the standard 76km/h, but eventually passed at 68km/h.
As you can see in the video, the Suzuki does perform admirably in the sense that it tends to understeer. The stability control is obviously working very hard to keep everything in check and to keep the car from going over.
