June 2017 Issue

Gracing the Leisure Wheels cover this month is our Toyota Hilux SRS project vehicle. Based on the 2.4 Hilux SRX, the racing-inspired bakkie shows what you can do with an ‘entry-level’ double cab bakkie.

The June issue also sees our annual Leisure Wheels Adventure Safari. This year, we took 16 vehicles from Johannesburg to Cape Town to find our ultimate long-distance vehicle. The results might just surprise you…

We recently attended the massive Shanghai Auto Show, and also visited Chinese manufacturer Haval’s manufacturing and research facilities in China. Haval’s new vehicles are in the process of being launched in South Africa, and what we experienced overseas has us very excited.

Our road test for the month is Audi’s fun and funky Q2. Is the little Audi SUV worth the (substantial) price tag? We try to find out who exactly this new crossover is aimed at.

Our long-term Amarok visited the Central Kalahari Game Reserve recently, and you can read all about this adventure in the June issue. Lots of mud, an earthquake and some campsite-related overpopulation ensured it was an interesting excursion.

On the technical side, we look at how electric vehicles work, and visit Beekman to find out how they build those snazzy canopies.
