May 2019 Issue

This issue is one tough mudder. We don’t just take a peek at one of the toughest races in the world, we look at two! First up is the Cape Epic where we take a Range Rover Velar to follow the cyclists as they attack the hills and mountains of the Western Cape.

Then, we pop over the Atlantic to revisit an off-road event where only the toughest vehicles survive, let alone challenge for the title of King of Hammers. It’s one massive party weekend with racing thrown in for good measure.
A bit closer to home, the Rust de Winter Jamboree is a similar event, on a slightly smaller scale. You just don’t have to be quite as crazy to take part.

Our cover feature sees us pit the all-new, radically styled Mitsubishi Triton against South Africa’s undisputed number one bakkie, the Toyota Hilux. Is the King dead (long live the new king)? You’ll have to read that one to find out.

We also took the Lexus UX250h for a drive, travelling down to Clarens to see if the hybrid can do everything it claims on the box.

If you’re into DIY then our story about the Brandt Bloemfontein bakkie boys who have set up their own workshop is definitely worth a read. Feathery bakkies these are not. These okes make em tough.

In our Gear section this month we take a look at some homegrown heroes, cars for kids and a few gadgets and gizmos you might enjoy using around the braai.

Kingsley Holgate and Johan from Voetspore are still as entertaining as ever and we interview the Proteas’ Kagiso Rabada.

As usual, we throw in Tech, Retro and our Campsite review for good measure.
