The 1979 G-Class was built on a ladder-type frame with coil-sprung rigid axels. At its launch there were four engine variants, two wheelbases and two body styles. Mercedes-Benz has encased one of these, the first G-Class production models, inside a gigantic block of amber resin and it’s on display at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit. Here you can watch the vehicle in a far more natural habitat.
