The all-new Subaru Legacy (pictured above) was unveiled at the recent Chicago Auto Show. Now Car and Driver is reporting that the Legacy’s new off-road sibling, the 2015 Outback, will be unveiled at the New York Auto Show, which takes place in April.
The Outback has always been a bit of an oddity – part station wagon and part SUV. Those who have driven the outgoing Outback, however, would probably have been very impressed with its performance. With excellent ground clearance and a good AWD system, the previous Outback was a very good compact SUV/crossover.
The Legacy was unveiled at the Chicago Show with a choice of two engines, both petrol. The first was a 2,5-litre flat four cylinder, and the second was a 3,6-litre flat six cylinder. Both were mated only to a CVT shifter. We can expect the Outback to sport similar drivetrains, though a diesel will inevitably also be added when the vehicle eventually heads to Europe and SA.
We really like the design direction Subaru has taken with the new Legacy, so we’re quite excited to see what the all-new Outback will look like.
