“A preview of Urus, the world’s first Super SUV by Lamborghini, as it drives through desert sand and dunes. High speed, absolute control.” This is the way Lamborghini describes this teaser video for the Urus SUV which will be unveiled on 4 December and we have to admit that it is rather thrilling.
In addition to the three usual driving modes (available on the Huracan and Aventador), Strada, Sport and Corsa, the Urus gains three new ones: Terra (land), Neve (snow), and Sabbia (sand).
The Terra and Neve modes will no doubt provide additional grip on rough or snowy terrains but the Sabbia mode, as seen in the video, seems to be all about playing on the sand.
Not much has been revealed about the Urus yet, however we do know that instead of the staple Lamborghini V10 and V12 naturally aspirated engines, the Urus ‘Super SUV’ will be powered by a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine – expected to produce about 485kW. In theory, this will make it faster than the Bentley Bentayga.
The Urus will be Lamborghini’s second SUV, the first being the square, bulky looking LM002 from 20 years ago. There were only 300 LM002 vehicles built and one of them was blown up by the US military in Iraq in 2004. Hopefully, nothing like that will ever befall one of Lambos new SUVs.
