The new Scorpio model range has a host of new safety features, including ABS and airbags, which are available as standard on all models except the workhorse Scorpio Pik-Up 2.5 TCI single cab, where it is available as an option.
For the first time a Scorpio is available with an automatic transmission, in the top-of-the-rage SUVs. The six-speed gearbox features a Normal and a Winter mode, the latter specifically designed for use on slippery road conditions, avoiding high torque at the wheels at startup. The control unit on this transmission also automatically detects the gradient and alters the gear-change timing for improved drivability.
This gearbox has been mated to the more powerful 2,2-litre “mHawk CRDe” turbodiesel engine that features common-rail technology, and produces 87 kW and 270 Nm. The manual Scorpios have a five-speed gearbox, and are powered by the older 2,5-litre turbodiesel engine that delivers 74 kW of power at 3800 r/min and 258 Nm at 1800 r/min.
The entire Scorpio range has a redesigned front grille, wrap-around bumpers and a new bonnet scoop, as well as multi-reflector headlights and new fog lamps.
The interiors of the Scorpio SUV and Pik-Ups boast new ergonomically-designed seats, a new-look gear lever and a host of utility spaces. The Scorpio range now also has handy audio controls on the steering wheel, as well as cruise control on the automatic models. A new 2-Din audio system enables playback from MP3s, CDs, SD cards and USB devices.
