Details have been released ahead of the launch of the 2014 BMW X5, set to include four new models and updated engines. The X5 has been a huge success for the company, selling over 1.3 million units since the launch of the first generation.
In its third incarnation, the xDrive50i is to gain a new generation V8 petrol engine producing 330kW. The xDrive30d will have an updated six-cylinder inline diesel mill producing 190kW, and the M50d a tri-turbo, six-cylinder diesel producing 280kW. In addition, an xDrive40d, xDrive35i, xDrive25d and sDrive25d are said to be on the way. The sDrive25d, then, becomes the first X5 not to benefit from the all-wheel drive system (and the price tag that goes with it). This model will be made available in rear-wheel drive only,
Top speed of the flagship xDrive50i is limited to 250 km/h, and the xDrive “status display” will make its debut in this model. It will produce a 0-100 km/h speed of only five seconds.
Features include the HeadUp display, dynamic/professional adaptive suspension, adaptive M suspension (as an option), electric power steering, active steering (option), and BMW’s “Dynamic Driving Controls” (Eco Pro, Comfort, Sport and Sport +). The preliminary date for the local launch is the first quarter of 2014, but look out for its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September this year.
