A 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLE prototype has been spotted in Germany during testing.
Mercedes intends to increase the off-road capabilities of the updated GLE, in comparison to the current model and the spy shots do show that the test vehicle has better ground clearance. It’s expected that the new model could also have a low-range function on the gearbox and better differential locking.
The new GLE will be underpinned by the same modular architecture as the E-Class and could be fitted with a number of new six-cylinder petrol engines. GLE 43 and GLE 63 AMG models are also expected.
From a looks perspective, the new model will present a thoroughly revised front and rear fascia and indications from the prototype are that the lines will be a lot softer.
Carscoops reports that inside, “the car will get a dual screen setup like other Mercedes models as well as two prominent handles on the center console.”
