The new 2019 Jeep Cherokee mid-size SUV makes its debut at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show this week boasting a new design and the addition of an all-new 2.0-litre direct-injection inline four-cylinder engine.
The front fascia, bonnet, LED headlamps, daylight running lights and fog lamps of the new the 2019 Jeep Cherokee have all been restyled. The updated interior ‘receives a fresh and elegant touch’ with new satin chrome and piano black high-gloss accents.
The new Cherokee is fitted with latest Uconnect infotainment and navigation system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and the choice of 7 – or 8.4-inch touchscreens with pinch-and-zoom capability.
The SUV gets a new turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, that delivers 201kW and 400Nm of torque, mated to an updated nine-speed automatic transmission. The 3.2-litre V6 Penstar and 2.4-litre Tigershark engines (also mated to a nine-speed auto box) form part of the US range as well.

There are three 4×4 systems available in the Jeep Cherokee – Jeep Active Drive I (a rear drive module that reduces weight while enhancing fuel efficiency and performance), Jeep Active Drive II (with two-speed Power Transfer Unit (PTU) and low-range gear reduction) and Jeep Active Drive Lock (with two-speed PTU, low-range and mechanically locking rear differential).
All 4×4 systems feature Jeep’s Selec-Terrain traction control system comes with up to five customized modes – Auto, Snow, Sport, Sand/Mud and Rock.
The new 2019 Jeep Cherokee will be introduced in Europe in the second half of 2018 and to South Africa in the third quarter.
