Well, since February 2009, Euro NCAP has added even more stringent standards: along with protecting adult passengers, the overall ratings also include standards for passenger protection for children and pedestrians, as well as the level of active safety.
Despite these new levels of testing, the Audi Q5 received a maximum of five stars from the program for its overall performance. Adult occupancy safety was very impressive at 92%, while child occupant safety was also good at 84%.
Pedestrians struck by a Q5 wouldn’t fare as well though, and NCAP acknowledged this by awarding the vehicle just 32% in this field. The Q5’s active safety system achieved 71%.
