BMW adds M40d variants to X3 and X4 ranges

The M40d variants of the X3 and X4 are now finally available in South Africa.

We first experienced this magnificent engine in the USA last year and we reckon it’s definitely the one to go for. You can read all about that adventure drive in the X4 M40d here.

Both cars use the same 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder diesel engine, which is good for 240kW and 680Nm of torque. The power is sent to the all-wheel drive system via an eight-speed gearbox.

BMW claims the X3 and X4 can sprint to 100km/h in 4.9 seconds and on to a top speed of 250km/h.

The X3 M40d retails for R1 034 964, while the X4 retails for R1 140 264.
