BMW has finally unveiled the highly anticipated X4 SAV.
The X4 may be based on the X3 platform, but its design inspiration comes from further up the line. You see; the X4 is the X6’s smaller brother.
To some it may seem silly, but once you look at how many X6’s BMW has sold over the last few years, it makes good business sense to introduce a smaller, more affordable crossover coupé.
The X4 is a bit longer and sits lower to the ground than the X3. The claimed cabin space and luggage capacity figures suggests that the X4 will be just as accommodating at the X3 it’s based on.
Six different engines will be available at launch, ranging from a 2,0-litre TwinPower four-cylinder diesel with 140kW/400Nm output, to a 3,0-litre TwinPower six-cylinder with 225kW and 400Nm on tap. Power is fed to the xDrive all-wheel drive via an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
The X4 is due to arrive in SA before the end of 2014.
