BMW has released preview images of its first-ever X2 SUV, with the official premiere of the“crossover-coupe” set to take place at next month’s Frankfurt Motor Show.
The concept vehicle was revealed in Paris last year and the German automaker promised that the production version will retain most of the concept’s looks.
Instead of being a mini-version of the X4, BMW have taken a different styling approach and the X2 looks closer to the X1 than any of the other SUV/crossover models.
The X2 will ride on the same front-wheel-drive UKL platform found in the X1 crossover and its rumoured that the new BMW will be powered by a range of turbocharged three- and four-cylinder engines also shared with Mini.
The family of available models could be topped by an M Performance variant, but not a full-on M product. Something along the lines of X2 M35i/M40i with roughly 224kW could be offered.
Production of the X2 will take place at the Regensburg factory in Germany, where it will share the assembly line with the standard X1.
