Here are some interesting renderings of what bakkies could look like if a whole lot of manufacturers jumped on the bandwagon, in the way Mercedes-Benz has with the upcoming X-Class. These imaginative pick-ups were created by Ford Transit Direct in the United Kingdom.
The most promising looking image, is that of the Jaguar F-Pace bakkie, it looks quite good actually. The Ford FIesta RS bakkie doesn’t look bad. But, the worst is probably the Bentley Mulsanne followed by the Rolls Royce Cullinan (which has yet to launch) bakkie concept. Despite the boxy, bold front ends, these stately cars just don’t translate well and should stick to their ‘day jobs’ of shuttling dignitaries and the like to and from meetings and airports. The Lotus Elise conversion is quite cute and it reminds us a little of Lightning McQueen, the fictitious star of the Disney Cars movies – which is also why it’s hard to take seriously.
