It’s nearly time for the Tokyo Motor Show, which means we’ll be seeing a number of odd concept cars for the first time.
This year Daihatsu is the first out of the gate with the introduction of the WakuWaku concept.
It’s fairly obvious that it’s aimed directly at the Suzuki Jimny. It’s also 3395mm long, so it’s a short, fun and no-nonsense off-roader.
But, as we all know, being small comes with limitations. The Jimny’s boot is extremely small with all its seats in place.
Daihatsu gets around this problem by adding a split-tailgate and an rather smart roof that pops up to reveal an extra storage compartment. It doesn’t look that big, but when space is restricted you use every little bit you can get.
There’s no information available about the powertrain at this stage, but since it’s a Japanese Kei car, don’t expect more than 1000cc.
We’ll keep you posted as more information becomes available.
