There is one way to make a chunky, yet very lovable Fiat behave in such an ill-mannered way that even a behavioral institute would spit it right out… simply add an Abarth badge.
Off-course this badge doesn’t automatically endow a vehicle to go faster in some miraculous kind of way. What it means, though, is that standard Fiats get upped on power, it becomes uncomfortable and it gets some serious visual kit all thanks to Fiat’s performance wing, Abarth.
In this instance, the already peppy-engined Fiat 500X will receive some enhancements as it looks set to join the fold in the near future.
According to Auto Express, the devilish Abarth 500X crossover will possibly be based on the current 1.4-litre turbocharged model and will be blessed with around 150kW of power. That is 47kW more than the subdued lifestyle version.
It will look the part too, receiving an enthusiastic overhaul, the sporty crossover will feature Abarth motifs all-round, larger wheels (who doesn’t like that) and a no-nonsense body kit.
The big question is if it will come to South Africa. Pricing might nudge the R600 000 mark, so be prepared to swallow a somewhat bitter pill to buy what might possibly be the ultimate crossover. At least, it will have colour-coordinated brake calipers!
