In a record time of 10 days, 13 hours and 28 minutes, a 4×2 Fiat Panda crossed the finish line in Mable Arch last night after a gruelling, non stop drive through Africa.
Traversing 13 countries, the pair of British drivers crossed over 16 000km, raising money for their charity, Farm Africa. The organisation provides training and resources for families to farm for themselves and their communities.
On the African side, Philip Young and Paul Brace left South Africa on the 1st of February and crossed through Botswana, Zambia, Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia, Sudan, Egypt, Lybia and Tunisia before crossing over into Europe.
“It has been a remarkable time on the road… and the Fiat Panda has been amazing” said driver Philip Young after crossing the finish line. “The roads were treacherous, the heat unbearable and the timetable exhausting, but the car never missed a beat… Fiat can be proud of its reliability and ruggedness.”
