Here in South Africa the Fullback is Fiat’s only bakkie offering.
In Latin America, however, there’s a small double-cab bakkie built on the Jeep Renegade platform and it’s called the Toro.
FCA recently decided that another of its brands, Ram, should sell a version of this bakkie as well, named the 1000.
FCA hopes this move will increase sales in places where the Ram name has more prestige attached to it. These countries include Chile, Bolivia, Peru and Panama, among others.
Power is provided by a 1.8-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, which produces 95kW and 170Nm of torque. It’s mated to a six-speed automatic transmission that sends the power to the front wheels only.
The payload is claimed to be 650kg, but it can only tow 400kg.
Neither the Toro, nor the Ram version is destined to come to South Africa.
