Great Wall Motor’s luxury brand Haval is a competitive player in the Chinese home market selling over a million SUVs per annum.
In less than a year since the brand entered the South Africn market it has garnered the “Company to Watch” award from our sister publication CAR magazine.
This was part of the CAR mag’s Special Awards as part of its “Top 12 Best Buys of 2018”, with the award ceremony taking place on Tuesday, 13 February.
We have to agree with CAR magazine, we were suitably impressed when Leisure Wheels tested the Haval H6 C SUV and also the smaller Haval H2.

CAR magazine noted that the brand made an impressive entry into the South African market last year, commenting that, ” Haval might be new here, but the premium sub-brand of Great Wall Motors (GWM) has been a heavy hitter in its domestic market of China, selling more SUVs than any other brand, and it’s making no secret of its global ambitions.
We tested two vehicles in its model line-up – the H2 and the H6 C – and walked away genuinely impressed by the marked leap in design, sophistication and build quality offered by both.”
We have to concur.
When we wrote about the Haval H6C that we drove at the Cradle of Humankind, we had this to say, “When we tested the H2, we stated that it was the best Chinese vehicle we had ever tested. That crown has been taken over by the H6 C, if only because it is a slightly better all-round package. ”
Says Tyrone Alberts, Haval’s National Sales Manager: “Haval Motors South Africa will be celebrating its one year anniversary on the 31st May 2018, and in a fairly short space of time has grabbed the attention of the South African media and consumer in an extremely positive way. We know that this is just the beginning, and want to assure our valued customers that we are here to stay, even in a time when certain other motor manufacturers have left our shores.”
Later this year we can expect the debut of the Haval H9.
