Reuters is reporting that Hyundai is seriously considering a production version of the Santa Cruz pick-up concept that it showcased at the North American International Auto Show.
The Hyundai Santa Cruz apparently received a very positive reception at the show, which has prompted executives to look into a production version.
That said, Park Byung-Cheol, a director at the Hyundai research and development division, added that several “hurdles” would have to be overcome before the Hyundai Santa Cruz made it into production. The vehicle, after all, is very clearly a concept, and a production model would need to be toned down.
What is the Hyundai Santa Cruz? It could best be described as, well, a crossover between a crossover and a pick-up. Hyundai says it is a vehicle designed for “urban adventurers”.
The concept version is powered by a two-litre turbo diesel that develops 142 kW of power and 406 Nm of torque. It also has an all-wheel-drive system. A production version would probably boast a similar set-up.
