Jaguar Land Rover is filing suit against the Jiangling Motor Corporation, related to the design of the LandWind X7. A JLR spokesman told Reuters that a Beijing court “served Jiangling Motor with newly filed actions surrounding copyright and unfair competition.” In other words, JLR’s suit alleges that the LandWind X7 is a copy of the Range Rover Evoque. It will be hard to dispute that!
The Land Rover suit has created interest because other automakers like Ford, Volkswagen, Cadillac, BMW/Mini, and more have been subject to Chinese copycats without much success in the courts of China. There’s a concern however that opposing domestic automakers too vehemently could hurt sales to Chinese drivers.
