The Compass and Renegade will use a combination of a 1.3-litre four-cylinder petrol engine and an electric motor, but no details were given on the Wrangler’s setup.
A plug-in hybrid version of the 3.6-litre V6 already exists in a people carrier not sold locally and that model uses two electric motors and can drive around 50km on electric power alone.
These models will carry 4xe badges.
With greater torque and immediate engine response, Jeep claims these electric vehicles will offer an even more fun-to-drive experience on the road and more capability than ever off the road.
Additional information about the Jeep Wrangler, Compass and Renegade 4xe vehicles, which debut this year, will be provided at the Geneva, New York and Beijing auto shows.
