Kia goes hybrid route with Niro

Kia chose the Chicago Motor Show to unveil its all-new Niro crossover.

It looks pretty cool and it has a host of luxury and convenience features, but the biggest news is that it’s a hybrid.

The powertrain consists of a 1,6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery. It produces a combined power output of 105kW and 270Nm of torque.

Unlike most other hybrid vehicles out there, the Niro was conceived as a hybrid from the beginning. As such it has numerous features to help the driver use less fuel.

The most interesting example of this is the Predictive Energy Control, which basically reads the road ahead and sets the car up to use the least amount of energy/fuel.

The Niro has not been confirmed for SA yet.
